Legendary American actor and musician David Keith Lynch has passed away at the age of 72.
Naija News reports that Lynch, the renowned creator of Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, died recently. His family confirmed his death in a statement released Thursday.
In their announcement, the family requested privacy as they grieve the loss. The statement read, “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us.”
In 2024, Lynch disclosed that he had been diagnosed with emphysema after decades of smoking. Emphysema, a chronic lung disease, impairs lung function and makes breathing difficult.
Despite fans’ concerns, Lynch assured the public in August that the diagnosis wouldn’t force him into retirement. He shared on X: “Ladies and gentlemen, yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have now quit smoking for over two years. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire.”
Born in Missoula, Montana, in 1946, Lynch became famous for his surreal neo-noir films. His first feature film, Eraserhead (1977), achieved cult status as a midnight movie.
