A 51-year-old American returnee, Sunday Abioye, has been found dead in his hotel room in Sagamu, Ogun State. His body was discovered in his room at a hotel near the GRA area of Sagamu on Wednesday.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement from Abeokuta, the state capital. She explained that the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Oluwole, reported the death to the police.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives visited the scene. They found Abioye’s body outside the hotel, already placed in a car, as his family was preparing to transport it to the morgue.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State, informed police that Abioye had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Godday recounted that he had visited the hotel on Monday and knocked on his brother’s door but received no response. After requesting a spare key from the hotel manager, he entered the room and found his brother dead.

It was noted that the center of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance. A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he had accompanied Abioye the previous day to purchase various medications, as Abioye had been complaining of illness.
