Manchester United has brought an end to their goalkeeping uncertainties by completing the signing of Inter shot-stopper André Onana.
The talented goalkeeper, who played a vital role in Inter’s 2022 Serie A title triumph and their appearance in the 2023 Champions League final, joins the Red Devils in a deal reportedly worth €55 million.
Having been a regular for Cameroon in the past, Onana commits to Manchester United on a five-year contract, reuniting with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.
At 27 years old, he arrives at Old Trafford with the task of filling the shoes of the departing David De Gea, who served as the club’s primary goalkeeper for an impressive 12 years before leaving this summer after his contract expired.
With Ten Hag eager to integrate Onana into the team as quickly as possible, the new signing is expected to join his teammates on the club’s pre-season tour in the United States.
“André Onana said: “Joining Manchester United is an incredible honor, and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way. Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.
“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years. I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”
