The count of women vying to succeed Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has reached three, as paediatrician Angela Aburime-Asom joins the race.

Aburime-Asom, endorsed by top Labour Party (LP) members in the state, aims for the party’s gubernatorial ticket. The LP state chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, assured all aspirants of a fair contest.

Ogbaloi emphasized the party’s preparedness to assume governance, aiming to take over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) next year.

Addressing the media, the female aspirant expressed contentment with the warm reception from the LP’s state leadership, confirming the acceptance of her letter of intent by the party hierarchy.

Confident in her prospects, she expressed her readiness to compete in the party’s primary election and potentially secure the position of the party’s candidate in the 2024 state election.

“I’m thrilled with the reception at the party’s headquarters, indicating its strong standing for the upcoming elections. With my intent submitted, I’m hopeful about winning the primaries and securing the party’s nomination for the election.”

Aburime-Asom, hailing from the Edo Central senatorial district, stands as a promising candidate for the next state governorship position.
