Following the tragic incident involving the loss of troops from the Nigerian Army during a peacekeeping mission in Bomadi LGA of Delta State, including the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers, General CG Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has issued orders for the immediate arrest and thorough investigation of all responsible parties.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, confirmed the unfortunate killing of the military personnel on Saturday, expressing deep regret over the incident.

Gusau stated, “The troops belonging to the 181 Amphibious Battalion, deployed to Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State for a peace mission to Okuoma community, were surrounded and attacked by youths from the community on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

“This tragic event unfolded in response to a distress call following the communal conflict between the Okuama and Okoloba communities within Delta State.

“Moreover, the reinforcement team, under the command of the slain officer, faced a similar assault, resulting in the loss of lives of the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers.

“In light of this distressing development, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has mandated an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those accountable for this reprehensible act.

“The incident has been duly reported to the Delta State Government.

“Nevertheless, the military remains resolute in its dedication to upholding peace and security across the nation.

“As of now, several arrests have been made, and efforts are underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
