Angry mob reportedly sets two suspected robbers on fire in Anambra

Two suspected armed robbers have been set ablaze by an angry mob in Anambra State.

The incident occurred at Mmili ezi Igbo in Oraukwu community, Idemmili North Local Government Area on Sunday morning.

It was gathered that the mob carried out the act after a gun battle between the robbers and the community’s vigilance group.

Anambra Police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident.

He said investigations had commenced to find out what actually transpired, adding that the Command had restored normalcy in the area.

A source told The Nation the robbers had allegedly snatched a Toyota Camry from their victim at that axis of the community before the local vigilante raced after them following a distress call.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the suspects had made that area a dangerous zone, adding they always engaged the vigilance group in a gun battle.

Another said the suspects engaged members of the vigilance group in a fierce gun duel before they were subdued.

Youths in the area came out in their numbers in anger and burnt the suspects.
