Angry villagers clash with mortuary attendants over missing testicles of deceased

Tension erupted at a local mortuary along Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road in Obingwa LGA, Abia State, on Tuesday after the testicle of a deceased male, deposited at the facility, was discovered to be missing.

The shocking discovery was made by the deceased’s sister, who requested to inspect her brother’s body in full before it was released for burial. The body, which had been in the mortuary for over a year, was undressed, and upon a “thorough inspection,” it was found that the testicle was missing. This led to widespread anger among the deceased’s relatives and the local community.

Realizing the severity of the situation, some of the mortuary attendants attempted to flee, but they were caught by the crowd and beaten severely.

As word spread, many villagers who had previously entrusted their loved ones to the mortuary rushed to retrieve the bodies and move them to other facilities. Angry youths also vandalized property at the mortuary in their frustration.

The incident has prompted other villagers to vow that they will personally inspect the bodies of their deceased relatives at different mortuaries before accepting them for burial.
