An 18-year-old man, Adamu Musa, who hails from Unguwar Magina, Buji town, Buji Local Government Area, Jigawa State, has reportedly drowned in a pond while attempting to save his cow after it fell into the water.
IDOMA VOICE reports that this was made known in a statement on Sunday by the Jigawa State Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Adamu Shehu.
He claimed the tragic situation happened on Saturday at around 2:00 when the young man brought two of his cows to the farm and released them to graze from the surrounding grasses.
According to Shehu, on sighting what happened, Musa rushed to rescue his cow but was drowned, despite the combined efforts of the locals and the NSCDC personnel to rescue him.
He added that his body was found on Sunday and handed over to his parents for proper burial, while the cow was rescued alive.
He said: “sadly, one of the cows slipped and fell into a pond located close to the farm where they were grazing.
“Sighting the ugly occurrence, the deceased rushed to rescue his cow, but was drowned despite the combined efforts of the locals and the NSCDC personnel to rescue him
“The body was thoroughly examined, confirmed dead and handed over to his parents for proper burial while the cow was rescued alive.”
