Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has condemned the latest wave of deadly violence in the state, declaring that Benue communities “are not killing fields,” as he ordered an immediate military operation in the affected areas.

The governor’s directive follows brutal, unprovoked attacks that left 23 people dead—12 in Apa Local Government Area and 11 in Gwer West. Reacting to the killings, Governor Alia described the attacks as “senseless” and “unacceptable,” vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I will not stand by while our communities are turned into killing fields,” the governor said in a statement on Monday. “Following an emergency security council meeting, I have directed joint security forces to move into the affected areas and beyond without delay.”

According to Alia, the deployment of troops is aimed at halting the violence, sweeping through vulnerable communities, and restoring calm. He emphasized that the state government is fully committed to protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

“We are mobilizing every available resource to secure our people and hold those responsible for these heinous acts accountable,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and displaced persons during this difficult time.”

The governor also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security operatives on the ground. He assured the public that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
