The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended Saleh Idris, a 56-year-old chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Roni Local Government Area (LGA), on charges of allegedly raping his housegirl.
CSC Adamu Shehu, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Command of the NSCDC, confirmed the arrest through a statement issued to DAILY POST.
The arrest transpired on Wednesday, in response to a complaint filed by the victim’s brother. The brother alleged that Idris had raped and impregnated his 14-year-old sister, who had been working as a house-help at the suspect’s residence.
According to the victim’s brother, the case was reported to the NSCDC in Roni LGA after an unsuccessful attempt to resolve the matter at the Hisba office, during which Idris was pressuring the family to facilitate an abortion.
The victim’s brother revealed, “The victim’s first encounter with the suspect was when the suspect offered her a drink while his wife was absent, causing her to lose consciousness, after which he had sexual relations with her. When the victim regained consciousness, he threatened her, cautioning her not to divulge the incident, or else she would forfeit her monthly allowances. Consequently, this disturbing pattern persisted until the pregnancy became apparent.”
CSC Adamu Shehu stated that during the interrogation, the accused vehemently denied the allegations. The case has now been presented before the court, with charges filed under Section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of Jigawa State. The Act stipulates severe penalties for such offenses.
