APC could have lost 2023 election if Atiku, Peter Obi had united – Ismael Ahmed
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Ismael Ahmed, has acknowledged that the APC and President Bola Tinubu could have lost the 2023 presidential election if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had joined forces.
Ahmed made this revelation during an interview on the Mic On podcast with Nigerian journalist Seun Okinbaloye.
This statement follows growing speculation about a possible coalition between Atiku and Obi to form a formidable political front capable of challenging President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
When asked about the likelihood of such an opposition alliance, Ahmed admitted concern, emphasizing the potential impact it could have. He noted that the ruling party might face significant challenges in 2027 if the two opposition leaders united.
He said, “I never take any potential threat lightly in politics. If you add the votes of Atiku and Obi in 2023, we could have easily lost the election. God forbid that they come together.”
Ahmed’s remarks reflect the APC’s awareness of the strategic implications of a unified opposition in future elections.
