* ‘Election not a do-or-die affair’ – Chief Apochi, Achegblu charge Benue South politicians

The people of Ugboju have declared their total support for the senatorial flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue South, Comrade Abba Moro, and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

Ugboju is the hometown of Dr. Dickson Akoh, the National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

Over 20,000 people gathered at Ogoli to receive the PDP candidates who were led by Comrade Abba Moro in their second day ward-to-ward campaign tour in Otukpo LG.

Residents of the area who spoke with our reporter at the venue, declared their total support for the PDP, asserting that the All Progressives Congress, APC, disappointed them.
The people said due to the refusal of the APC to pick their kinsman, Dr. Akoh, who had touched their lives positively as deputy governorship candidate, they would pay them back by voting for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Interestingly, the candidate of the PDP for Otukpo/Akpa Federal constituency, Hon. Egli Ahubi promised to donate a new transformer to a community in Ugboji in two weeks.

He also gave out scholarship to a young boy who came to feed his eyes at the venue.

Comrade Moro also gave out scholarship to a young orange seller who came to the venue to market her product at the campaign venue.

Earlier, the train received the royal blessing of Chief Solomon Apochi, the district head of Ugboju.

The monarch, who received the PDP candidates in his palace, reminded all politicians, especially in Benue South to see the election as a brotherly contest and not a do-or-die affair.

“Abba Moro is not a visitor to me. I have known him for years; right from his days as LG chairman in Okpokwu. We heard about your exploits there. I am also aware on what you did while serving as minister of interior in the last regime. That is what we called true leadership. I am sure you will not deviate from that once they people decide to elect you.

“Let us not see this contest as a do-or-die affair. It is a brotherly contest and it should be devoid of violence and hate speeches,” Chief Apochi warned.

HRH, Chief Hausa Achegblu, the district head of Entekpa ward also gave his royal blessing to all the candidates of the party in his palace.

During the visit by Moro and other candidates to his palace, the king gave them his blessing and urged them to always remember the electorate when they get to power.

Chief Achegblu specifically appreciated Abba Moro for creating employment opportunities for Benue South sons and daughters during his days as Minister of Interior.

Similarly, the people of Adoka Ehaje ward, who also welcomed the PDP train in their numbers, declared that they would vote for umbrella at the polls.

Speaking during the tour in Adoka/Ugboju, Comrade Moro named some indigenes of the areas he secured jobs for in the para-military.

He vowed that when he gets to ‘Abuja’, he would use his office to do more for the people.

On his part, Hon Johnson Egli Ahubi, Deputy Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly and the ticker holder of the PDP for Otukpo/Ohimini constituency, said he would touch the lives of the people just like he has been doing in Otukpo/Akpa areas.

He urged people of the area to vote for Atiku Abubakar as President, Samuel Ortom as governor, Abba Moro as Senator, his number as house of reps member and Mike Audu as state house assembly member at the polls.

Meanwhile, the tour continue today in Ohimini LG.
