Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from the All Progressives Congress.
Shekarau, a former Governor of Kano State who is now Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, hinged his decision to dump the ruling party on injustice and unfairness by Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
His defection was announced by the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, after the senate Chamber resumed from a two hour-closed door meeting on Wednesday.
The resignation letter read: “I am defecting from the APC to my new party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party as a result of unfairness, injustice by Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“For the past two years there has been an unresolved crisis in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, hence, I have resigned my membership.”
