APC postpones Bayelsa Governorship Campaign Kick-off amid legal controversy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to postpone the commencement of the Bayelsa State governorship election campaign, originally scheduled for today, in preparation for the November 11 polls. The announcement of the delay was made by the party on Friday night, a day before the planned event.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja that ousted the APC’s governorship candidate for Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva. The court’s rationale was based on Sylva’s dual inauguration as the state’s governor, citing a potential constitutional breach if he were allowed to contest and potentially win.

Despite this setback, the APC remained resilient and had initially intended to proceed with the campaign. The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, affirmed their determination to forge ahead with campaign activities despite the court’s ruling.

However, on Friday night, the party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, officially announced the deferment of the Bayelsa state governorship campaign. The party assured that a new date would be communicated in the near future.

Although the specific reason for the event’s postponement was not detailed in the announcement, the APC had already kick-started campaign activities for the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Imo, slated for November 11.
