APC slams Rhodes-Vivour over defection to ADC
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has strongly criticised the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, following his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, said Lagos should not be turned into an experiment ground for what he described as “serial defectors and political apprentices.”
Oladejo described Rhodes-Vivour’s defection as another example of inconsistency and lack of political ideology, arguing that governance is a serious business and not “a reality show where one switches costumes from season to season.”
According to him, Rhodes-Vivour’s frequent movement across political parties is less about building a career and more about opportunism.
“From his early days in the little-known Kowa Party, to his brief stint in the PDP, his sudden rise to the Labour Party ticket in 2023, and now his shift to the ADC, Rhodes-Vivour has hopped from platform to platform without any clear vision or loyalty. His politics is not driven by ideology but by personal ambition,” Oladejo stated.
The APC accused Rhodes-Vivour of leaving behind “confusion and betrayal” with every move, insisting that such inconsistency shows he cannot be trusted with leadership responsibility.
Commenting on Labour Party’s criticism that Rhodes-Vivour’s exit was hasty, Oladejo said the party had no moral ground to complain. “He came in, took their ticket, lost the election, and left. If they feel used and dumped, they have only themselves to blame,” he added.
Oladejo also questioned why Lagosians should entrust governance to someone who, within a few years, had already contested under four different parties without any tangible record of service.
“Rhodes-Vivour needs to understand that a rolling stone gathers no moss. Politics is about patience, loyalty, and consistency, not about chasing every available platform for personal gain,” the statement concluded.
