The National Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has dismissed allegations by Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that he threatened his life.
Obi had accused Morka of issuing threats against him and his family following the former governor’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in his New Year message. In his public statement, Obi questioned whether he had “crossed the line,” citing alleged threats to his life, family, and associates.
The accusations stem from remarks attributed to Morka during an interview on Arise TV’s This Week program on January 4, 2025, where he reportedly said:
“Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times, and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.”
Morka’s Response
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Morka rejected Obi’s claims, describing them as false and malicious. He maintained that his comments were misrepresented and that he had not threatened Obi or anyone else.
The statement read: “On his verified X account, Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, alleged that his New Year message has led to threats to his life, his family, and those around him. He specifically referenced me, Felix Morka, claiming I accused him of ‘crossing the line’ and warned that he would face consequences.
“To set the record straight, I categorically deny threatening Mr. Obi, his family, or anyone else. Nothing I said during the interview on Arise TV or in any other forum contains or implies a threat against Mr. Obi. His allegations are entirely unfounded and amount to a self-serving, malicious lie.
“Mr. Obi’s claims are not only false but also reckless. By accusing me of threatening his life, he has incited his online supporters, some of whom have issued death threats against me and my family. This is unacceptable and reprehensible.
“As a public figure, Mr. Obi has a responsibility to provide truthful information. Instead, he has chosen to peddle falsehoods and play the victim to gain political relevance. I call on him to immediately retract his baseless accusations and urge his supporters to desist from further harassment or threats.
“As the National Spokesman of the APC, I will continue to hold Mr. Obi and other opposition actors accountable for their statements and actions, just as they should hold our party and administration accountable, provided it is done truthfully and in good faith.”
Background
This is not the first time tensions have flared between the APC and opposition parties. Obi’s New Year message criticized the current administration’s policies, prompting Morka’s initial remarks during the Arise TV interview. However, Morka insists his comments were taken out of context and that he harbors no hostility toward Obi or his family.
The APC spokesman has also warned that he is prepared to explore legal options to defend his reputation if the allegations are not retracted.
