Appeal court orders Lawani to pay Abba Moro, others ₦450,000 for time wasting

The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi on Thursday ruled in the appeal filed by Chief Stephen Lawani challenging the decision of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal who refused his application to file more evidence and more documents in his petition against the victory of Distinguish Senator Abba Moro in the February 23rd election.

The Court dismissed his appeal and awarded a cost of ₦150,000 in favour of each of the three Respondents (Moro, PDP, INEC) and stated that ” the Court will not allow violence to the law which the application sought to cause”.

It will be recalled that Chief Stephen Lawani, candidate of the APC in the last senatorial election in Benue South won only 2 out of the 102 Council Wards in the district.

His lawyers filed a petition at the election petition tribunal sitting in Makurdi which he did not sign and has done everything humanly and legally possible to frustrate the hearing of his own case.

A fresh application which he filed on June 17th, requesting to call more witnesses will be determined on Monday 1st, July before the commencement of hearing.
