The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom, represented by his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu today, joined heads of military, paramilitary, traditional and religious institutions to lay wreaths on the military cenotaph at IBB Square in honour of our fallen military heroes.
The elaborate but solemn military ceremony without speech was marked 21-gun-salute, military parade and the release of doves, signifying a clamour for peace in the country.
Prayers were offered for prosperity and peaceful coexistence in Benue state particularly and Nigeria generally.
The Air Officer commanding tactical Air Command Makurdi, Air Vice Marshal Or Philip, Special Forces, Nigerian Army School of Military, NASME, Commandant; Brig Gen. Mamman, Commander 401 Special Forces BDE, Brig General SM Uba, Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi Commodore USA Chugali, AIG Zone 4, Comptrollers of Immigration, Nigerian Correctional Centre, Civil Defence, Corp Marshall, Federal Road Safety Commission, the Tor Tiv and the Och’Idoma, Nigerian Legion and Permanent Secretary, Bereau of Internal Affair and Special Services were all present at the befitting ceremony.
Recall that 15th January of each year is set aside by all the Common Wealth countries to commemorate Armed Forces Remembrance Day in honour of their fallen military heroes.
