Armed robbery gang busted in Ogun, police recover gun, machete

The Ogun State Police have arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle theft in the Owode Egba area.

The suspects are 42-year-old Adegboyega Sarafa, 38-year-old Soliu Bankole, and 46-year-old Sogo Idris, also known as Agbara.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, stating that the suspects were apprehended following information provided by a victim.

Odutola stated that the suspects had macheted and robbed 60-year-old Rotimi Bajel of his money, phone and Bajaj motorcycle, while he was riding along Ajura/Olojo/Shiun road.

She explained that during the attack, the assailants shot at the victim and when the gunshot failed to kill him, they resorted to hitting him with a machete on his head and neck.

Odutola said, “On October 11, 2024, a concerned resident provided valuable information that led the police to apprehend the suspects who attacked one Rotimi Bajela.

“The report stated that 60-year-old Rotimi Bajela was leaving Ajura Township and riding towards Ijemon Kukoyi Village via Owode Egba on his boxer Bajaj motorcycle, whose registration number is not yet known. As he travelled along the Ajura/Olojo/Shiun road, three men emerged from the bushes and assaulted him with a gun and a machete.

“During the attack, the assailants shot him; when the gun failed to injure or kill him, they resorted to hitting him with the machete on his head and neck, thereby robbing him of his motorcycle, money, and an Itel mobile phone.”

Items recovered from the suspects include a locally-made gun and machete used during the attack.

“All three suspects were arrested on Monday and the locally-made gun and machete used during the attack have been recovered.

“The suspects are currently being interrogated, and the crime scene in the Olojo Village bush area has been examined, with photographs taken. Further updates will be shared with the public.”

She warned commercial motorcycle riders and owners to remain vigilant and avoid becoming victims of armed robbery.
