Arraignment of suspended CBN Governor Emefiele takes new twist

The arraignment of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on charges of violating procurement laws and inflating contracts has taken an indefinite detour.

The scheduled 20-count charge arraignment at the Federal Capital Territory’s High Court, initially set for todaym Wednesday, was conspicuously missing from the day’s proceedings.

Sources stated that the unexpected shift stems from the detained CBN Chief himself.

It was revealed that both Godwin Emefiele and co-accused Saadat Yaro have shown an inclination towards a plea bargain approach in their engagement with the Federal Government.

Kehinde Akinlolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Emefiele’s legal representative, confirmed this unanticipated turn of events.

He indicated that a revised date for the arraignment might soon be announced by Chief Judge Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf.

Notably absent at this juncture were the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), who were previously responsible for escorting Emefiele to the court, as well as his legal team.

In the interim, the court proceeded with its docket, engaging with other matters listed for the day.
