Grammy-winning artist Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has revealed that her favorite African artists at the moment are her compatriot Asake and the emerging South African singer Tyla. She made this statement during an interview on the red carpet of the Time100 Next Gala in New York.
When asked about her favorite African artists, Tems replied, “My favorite African artists right now are Asake and Tyla.”
Tems was honored as one of the next-generation voices at the 2023 Time100 Next event. It’s worth noting that she wasn’t the only Nigerian on the 2023 Time100 Next list. Dr. Toyin Ajayi, the CEO of health start-up Cityblock Health, and tech founder Wemimo Abbey were also recognized, alongside co-founder Samir Goel, for their startup, Esusu.
