Asake under fire for disrespecting Christianity in ‘Only Me’ video

Social media personality and writer, Solomon Buchi, has joined the chorus of Nigerians criticizing popular Nigerian singer, Asake, over his new ‘Only Me’ video.

Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, unveiled snippets of his latest video during the week, which has drawn widespread condemnation from the Christian community for its perceived disrespect towards the Christian faith.

The video portrays the Grammy-nominated artist dressed in a priestly robe, engaging in what seems like a sacramental ritual with men and women in similar attire within a worship setting. He is depicted as a priest figure, seemingly bestowing gold-like financial resources upon the group, followed by the spraying of dollars.

Expressing his disapproval of the video on Instagram, Buchi highlighted that the portrayal of such a scenario, with no connection to Christianity, is “disrespectful.”

“Asake continues to disrespect the Christian faith in his music videos. The dramatization of giving the Eucharist, dressed in priestly regalia for a music video completely unrelated to Christianity, is disrespectful,” Buchi expressed.

“In his ‘Bandana’ video, he portrays black goats entering the church, with cloven tongues of fire above strange men. Asake, I believe, is a Muslim. Why doesn’t he take the same liberties to challenge and potentially embarrass his Muslim faith in a similar fashion?

“Why do Christians even support these musicians who blatantly disrespect Christianity?

“It’s disheartening to witness how these artists use Christian symbols as mere props for their videos, solely for visual impact.”
