The Benue State House of Assembly has taken decisive action in response to the ongoing security challenges in the state. Special Advisers to the Governor on Security Matters, Commanders of Livestock and Volunteer Guards, and heads of the state’s security outfits have been summoned by the Assembly.

The summoning was prompted by a motion introduced by Elias Audu, representing Gwer East state Constituency, and seconded by Kennedy Angbo of the Otukpu/Akpa state Constituency. The motion garnered additional support from Peter Ipusu, the Chief Whip and member representing Katsina-Ala West state Constituency.

Lawmakers expressed grave concern over the incessant killings in the state and the significant influx of Fulani herdsmen accompanied by their cattle.

The Assembly urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to commence the process of appointing a replacement for the arrested Caretaker Chairman of Gboko Local Government Area, Mr Tervershima Agber. Agber was apprehended a few weeks ago at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on suspicion of involvement in a plot to assassinate the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Hyacinth Dajoh.

In their resolution, the House recommended that the new Gboko Chairman should hail from the same Constituency as the arrested Agber, emphasizing the need for local representation and accountability in governance.
