Aston Villa secure loan moves for PSG’s Asensio, Chelsea’s Disasi

Aston Villa have secured loan deals for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Asensio and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi until the end of the season.

Asensio, a three-time Champions League winner, joins Villa on loan with the club covering his wages but with no option to make the move permanent. Disasi’s loan comes at a £5m fee, but similarly, there is no purchase clause.

These signings follow the arrivals of Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen, and Andres Garcia at Villa Park during the winter transfer window.

Villa has also made significant sales, including striker Jhon Duran, who was sold to Al-Nassr for £71m, and centre-back Diego Carlos, who moved to Fenerbahce for £8.45m.

Earlier on Monday, 21-year-old winger Samuel Iling-Junior was loaned to Middlesbrough for the remainder of the season.

Asensio bolsters attack

Marco Asensio has netted seven goals in 47 appearances for PSG since his move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old played a key role in helping PSG secure the French title last season, but this term, he has started only eight league matches.

He was also part of Spain’s squad that triumphed in the 2023 Nations League.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery emphasized the need for new signings following the team’s 2-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday, which left them in eighth place in the Premier League.

“Unai is a coach that I’ve known for a while,” Asensio told Villa’s club website.

“He’s had a great career, he’s a top coach, he’s been key in me being able to come here because of his idea of how he wants to play football.

“I love it – it suits me perfectly and he’s a really important person as to why I’m here right now.”

Disasi eases injury woes

Aston Villa secured the signing of Axel Disasi, beating Tottenham to the 26-year-old’s signature despite the deal being finalized late on Monday night.

It is understood that Disasi preferred a move to Villa, who sit eighth in the Premier League and have qualified for the Champions League’s last 16.

The arrival of Disasi provides Villa manager Unai Emery with a crucial addition to central defence following the sale of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce.

With Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings both sidelined due to injuries, midfielder Boubacar Kamara has been filling in as a makeshift defender.

However, Disasi will be unavailable for Villa’s match against Tottenham on Sunday due to being cup-tied.
