Joseph Agabaidu, a Geology student in his 500-level at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi, has been fatally stabbed when he was stabbed during an attempted phone theft. The incident occurred as he returned to his residence in Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, around 7 pm on Saturday.

Despite immediate efforts to secure medical assistance, Agabaidu succumbed to his injuries the following morning. The deceased, who was the eldest among his four siblings attending ATBU, was well-regarded in his academic pursuits.

In response to this tragedy, ATBU students are organizing a peaceful protest on Monday to draw attention to security concerns. They aim to call upon the school administration, government authorities, and security agencies to take substantial measures to ensure the safety of students.

A concerned student, speaking anonymously, pointed out the alarming recurrence of such incidents, citing a similar occurrence last December involving another ATBU student. Expressing grief, the student urged the school management, police, and the Bauchi State government to prioritize and enhance student security within the state.

The student emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent further tragedies, stating, “Our community should not have to endure such sorrow.” Joseph Agabaidu, being an older brother to three other siblings studying at ATBU, will be transported home by the Vice President of the Student Union Government, two university staff members, and his siblings.
