In response to President Bola Tinubu’s objection to releasing his academic records from Chicago University, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially filed a 17-page suit. Atiku and his legal team had been granted two days to respond to Tinubu’s motion, which deemed the request intrusive into private educational records.
Atiku’s suit outlines reasons for discountenancing and overruling Tinubu’s objections to the academic records’ release. The suit seeks the US District Court to discard Tinubu’s objections entirely and order Chicago State University to produce the required documents by October 2, 2023. Additionally, it requests a deposition scheduled by October 3 to allow for transcript finalization.
Angela Liu, Atiku’s counsel, noted that Nigeria’s Supreme Court is open to accepting relevant evidence, contrary to Tinubu’s earlier statement.
