Two result sheets said to be for the February 23, 2019 presidential election in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State emerged at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday.
This was discovered while the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, were tendering the certified true copies of result sheets as exhibits at the Thursday’s proceedings.
The result sheets were certified and released to the petitioners by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The petitioners, who are by their petition challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, opened the trial with the tendering of the documents after the pre-hearing session ended on Wednesday.
In the course of tendering the result sheets for Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, Justice Mohammed Garba, who presides over the five-man panel, observed that Form EC8C, the local government result sheet which ought to be one turned to be two.
He asked the petitioners’ lawyer which one should be recorded as the tendered exhibit.
Responding, the petitioners’ lawyer, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu said, “We got the two documents from INEC. So we are tendering the two.”
The tribunal went on to admit one of the Forms EC8C as Exhibit PYB 1101 and the other as Exhibit PYB 1101A.
The respondents’ lawyers, comprising Yunus Usman (SAN) for INEC, Mike Igbokwe (SAN) for Buhari and Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) for APC, objected to the admissibility of the documents tendered by the petitioners.
They are to give the reasons for their objection at the end of the trial.
