The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed that two individuals sustained injuries following the crash-landing of a Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School, Ilorin.

According to a statement released by Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, the incident occurred at 17:28 local time on May 23, 2025, during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05 at Ilorin International Airport. The aircraft veered off the runway and came to rest on the adjacent grass verge.

Both occupants on board were seriously injured and promptly evacuated to a medical facility, with the operation coordinated by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

The NSIB has already dispatched a Go-Team from Abuja to Ilorin to conduct a thorough on-site investigation. Their tasks include securing the crash site, collecting physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and retrieving operational data to determine the cause and contributing factors of the accident.

Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of NSIB, expressed concern for the injured parties and praised the prompt emergency response. He emphasized the importance of the investigation, stating, “Every incident provides an opportunity to improve safety. Our team is committed to a meticulous and independent inquiry to ensure no detail is overlooked.”

The Bureau called on the public and media to refrain from speculation and to await official updates as the investigation progresses.

NSIB reiterated its dedication to enhancing aviation safety in Nigeria through professional and transparent investigations and promised to provide further information as it becomes available.
