Awoniyi scores first goal of the season as Arsenal beat Forest 2-1
Taiwo Awoniyi showcased his goal-scoring prowess for the season, though it wasn’t enough to prevent Nottingham Forest from succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal.
Awoniyi’s participation in the match was in doubt due to his recent return to training, but he made an impact after being named among the substitutes.
Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, capitalizing on excellent teamwork from Gabriel Martinelli.
Bukayo Saka extended Arsenal’s lead with a stunning long-range shot just six minutes later.
Awoniyi entered the fray, replacing Danillo Oliviera, with 19 minutes left on the clock.
In the 82nd minute, the Nigerian international found the back of the net, narrowing the gap for Nottingham Forest. He calmly slotted home from close range after being set up by fellow substitute Anthony Elanga.
Ola Aina, Awoniyi’s compatriot, commenced the match and was substituted for Neco Williams in the 72nd minute. Aina received a booking in the 28th minute for his efforts.
Unfortunately, another Nigerian player at the club, Emmanuel Dennis, was absent from the matchday squad.
