Ballon d’Or controversy: Neymar blasts organizers over Raphinha’s ranking
Santos forward Neymar has openly criticized the Ballon d’Or organizers following Barcelona winger Raphinha’s placement in this year’s rankings.
The 33-year-old Brazilian described Raphinha’s fifth-place finish in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings as “a huge joke,” voicing his frustration over what he sees as a major snub.
The prestigious award, held on Monday night, saw Ousmane Dembélé crowned the winner ahead of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal. Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha finished third, while Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah took fourth.
Raphinha, despite a standout season, was ranked fifth, a result Neymar clearly found unacceptable.
“Raphinha in 5th is too much of a joke,” Neymar posted on Instagram shortly after the ceremony.
The former Leeds United winger was instrumental in Barcelona’s domestic dominance last season, playing a decisive role in their LaLiga and Copa del Rey triumphs. He contributed an impressive 56 goals and assists across 57 appearances, earning praise as arguably the club’s most influential performer throughout the campaign.
