The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Training at Zone E, Lawal Shehu, on Friday, announced the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to establish a training centre for its Counter-Terrorism, Special Protection and Border Control units in Gombe State.
Shehu disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, at the Government House.
According to Shehu, the establishment of the training centre for educating the special forces was borne out of the donation of the facility to the Nigeria Police Force by the Gombe State Government.
He said, “That school has multiple purposes; it will serve the police as a conduit for training the Special Protection Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Border Patrol Unit. It is very essential to us.
“We can’t grow or be professional without training and retraining. The IGP, Mohammed Adamu, said I should extend his humble greetings and appreciate you for finding it worthy to hand over the school to the Nigeria Police Force.”
On his part, Yahaya said the essence of governance was to provide security to both lives and property.
“The greatest challenge Nigeria is facing today is that of security. God has made us be in peace for so long that we have become a sanctuary to people displaced in the states around us.
“So security is becoming tasking and it needs support. In lieu of this, we approached the Nigeria Police to utilise the school structure that has been laying waste in order to enhance their operations and provide security for our people,” Yahaya said.
