At least 21 persons have been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits in separate attacks on communities in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina state.

The communities include Tsauwa, Ajiya and Yasore villages.

Residents said the bandits stormed Tsauwa village around 11.30 pm on Monday and operated till the early hours of Tuesday, killing 19 villagers.

It was learnt that on arrival at the village on motorcycles, the gunmen started shooting indiscriminately, resulting in the death of the victims.

“Over 19 persons were killed and they have all been buried this morning (Tuesday) while the wounded have been taken to hospital for treatment,” a resident said.

It was gathered that the bandits also attacked Ajiya and Yasore villages where they killed two persons and rustled more than 35 cattle on Sunday morning.

A traditional ruler in the area, the Magajin Yasore, Abdurazak Mamman, confirmed the attack.
