The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a cell break in its division in the Okrika Local Government Area on Tuesday.
Some gunmen were said to have stormed the division and forcefully opened the back door of the cell, from where all the detainees escaped.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has directed Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Patrick Longe to expedite investigation into the cause of the cell break.
The CP directed the DCP to ensure the detention of all officers involved in the incident.
Longe is also expected to ensure the rearrest of all escapees who should be made to face the full weight of the law.
