A group of bandits has killed a farmer and abducted six others in Garbatau, a farming community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The victim, identified as Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, a well-known large-scale farmer, was reportedly attacked and killed while working on his farm.
According to a local source, the six abducted individuals were taken from Garbatau, a farming settlement nestled between two mountains near Garba Chede town.
Adamu Dauda, a resident of Maihula town, confirmed that the kidnappers have contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million.
“Similar incidents happened around this time last year when large numbers of kidnappers invaded the area, abducting farmers and disrupting the harvest season,” Dauda explained, adding that the cycle of violence has once again derailed farming activities during the critical harvest period.
Efforts to get a response from the Taraba State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesman, SP Usman Abdullahi, did not respond to inquiries about the incident.
