Report has it that bandits attacked Tofa and Samawa villages in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing 41 farmers in the process.
Sources say the assailants invaded the area when the farmers were planting their crops and others were clearing their farms.
It was gathered that the bandits also blocked the road leading to the two villages where they also killed other farmers returning to their houses.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, said security operatives were not informed until after the bandits had finished their operation on Tofa community.
He however added that security operatives were deployed to the scene when the attackers invaded Samawa village. The security personnel engaged the bandits in a gun battle and killed some of them while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
