Israel Sunny-Goli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the recent Federal House of Representatives election in Bayelsa State, has offered congratulations to Marie Ebikake, his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This follows a ruling by the Election Petition Tribunal that affirmed Ebikake’s victory to represent the Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency of the state.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa, the state capital, Sunny-Goli announced that he would not pursue an appeal against the tribunal’s decision. He cited the potential hindrance a prolonged legal battle could pose to the development of the constituency and expressed a desire to avoid impeding progress.
Sunny-Goli, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, recalled his experience after the 2019 election, where he faced legal challenges. He acknowledged the unsettling and distracting nature of legal battles and emphasized his commitment to not obstructing the welfare of the people he aims to serve by prolonging the legal dispute.
He congratulated Ebikake on her victory and the favorable judgment from the Election Petition Tribunal, expressing anticipation for her efforts in delivering democracy’s dividends to their constituents in the National Assembly.
Sunny-Goli used the opportunity to encourage his supporters and party members, assuring them that this setback was temporary. He conveyed confidence in a brighter future, promising a strong comeback and a new chapter filled with greater prospects in their political journey.
