Bayelsa Governor breaks silence on Nengi pregnancy scandal

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has dismissed allegations linking him to the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson.

IDOMA VOICE reports that Diri attributed the viral rumors to political adversaries attempting to tarnish his reputation. The speculation gained traction after a popular blog alleged his involvement, despite Nengi publicly debunking the claims.

Reacting to the controversy, Governor Diri expressed shock and disappointment, especially as the false reports surfaced on the day his administration marked its 5th anniversary.

His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, described the claims as baseless, stating:

“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are unhappy with the governor’s rising political profile.”

Oredipe further criticized social media misinformation, calling it a deliberate attempt to distract from the administration’s achievements. He emphasized that while the government was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa, falsehoods were being spread online.

Describing Governor Diri as a man of honor, Oredipe reaffirmed that the allegations were politically motivated and had no factual basis.
