Belgian footballer Radja Nainggolan has been arrested in connection with a cocaine trafficking investigation.
The 36-year-old was one of several individuals detained by Belgian police on Monday morning following a series of raids across the country.
According to a statement from the Brussels prosecutor’s office, the investigation involves the alleged importation of cocaine from South America to Europe via the port of Antwerp, as well as its redistribution within Belgium. No additional details have been made public at this time.
The arrest comes just six days after Nainggolan came out of retirement to sign with Lokeren in the Belgian second division. He marked his return with a goal on debut, securing a 1-1 draw for his team against K. Lierse.
Born in Antwerp, Nainggolan spent the majority of his career in Italy, playing for both Roma and Inter Milan. He also earned 30 caps for the Belgium national team between 2009 and 2018.
