Bello Turji’s son killed as military intensifies operations against bandit kingpin

The Nigerian military has reportedly killed the son of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji as part of its ongoing offensive against his criminal network.

The operation, confirmed by counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama on Sunday, has successfully dismantled several key hideouts belonging to Turji in Fakai, within the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The recent military actions have followed up on previous missions that led to the destruction of bandit camps in Sabon Birni.

Makama highlighted that key camps, including Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, and Zangon Kagara, were targeted, along with a school Turji allegedly used for storing weapons and food supplies. The military set the school ablaze to prevent it from being used for logistical support.

“Intelligence sources confirmed Turji’s group suffered major losses, including the death of his son and several fighters. I also heard Turji calling for reinforcements, but none arrived. One of his spies narrowly escaped,” Makama said in a statement.

The targeted strikes also led to the neutralization of several high-ranking members of Turji’s group, with reports indicating that many fighters, including some who were injured in previous confrontations, have retreated to Mangwarorin Gebe, where they are believed to be hiding stolen livestock and valuables.
