Benue 2023: BRM takes agitation for Idoma governor to Suswam

The Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM) a pressure group set up for the actualization of a Governor from Benue South in 2023 under the Leadership of former Nigerian Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan (Rtd) took it’s consultation to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, and Senator representing Benue North East, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam in his Abuja residence.
The BRM have been involved in consultation and advocacy around major and critical stake holders in Benue State, appealing to the conscience of all involved on the need for power shift to Benue South senatorial district of Benue state in 2023.
Amongst those visited are Senator David Mark, Chief Audu Ogbe, Chief Mike Okibe Onoja, Chief Steve Lawani, Dr. Sam Ode and a host of others.
In order to curry the blessings of the traditional institutions, HRH Och’Idoma Idoma,HRM Tor TIV were visited and consulted.
In accordance with the need to have a far reaching and all encompassing consultations, the Senator representing Benue South, Comrade Abba Morro, other members of the National Assembly and the State house of Assembly were visited.
The past Few days have seen the BRM visiting HE Senator Dr. George Akume, Senator Ayu and HE Senator Gabriel Suswan.
The National Coordinator of the pressure group AVM Monday Morgan while addressing Senator Gabriel Suswan at his residence on the group’s activities, eulogised the Senator for his friendliness to Benue South when he held sway as governor. He pointed out that during his tenure, he handed very key positions which included SSG, Commissioner of Finance, health, women and Local government and chieftaincy affairs to the Zone.
AVM Monday Morgan appealed to the Senator to see reasons with the group’s submission inferring that since the creation of the state forty four years ago a person of Benue South extraction have never been given the chance to govern the state.
He recognized the fact that the TIV speaking part of Benue state which consist of Benue Zone A and B were the majority in the state and in a democratic setting numbers mattered a lot, not withstanding, he appealed to the Senator to see the plight of the people of Benue South and of cause help in pleading with his people and all stakeholders of Sankara axis and TIV Land in general to please help in entrenching the true meaning of democracy , void of tribal and ethnic divide and one which seeks to accommodate all in leadership and in service.
He further emphasized that the BRM was not a political movement as it has no affiliation to any political party or individual and its composition were mainly made up of retired military Generals, Doctors, Professors,Justices, technocrats and professionals in various fields, as well as political leaders drawn from across the zone who had all agreed to put aside personal ambitions and work towards achieving the general objectives of the group.
Sen Dr Suswam while reacting to the address of the National Coordinator of BRM thanked the group for finding the time to visit, he also applauded the strategy been utilized by the BRM which included pleading to the conscience of all stakeholders concerned especially those from Zone A and B.
The Senator wondered why such an agitation did not take place during his time as governor as he was very sure he had and still have a solid relationship with the people of Benue South.
He was of the opinion that everything has a time and nothing happens without the will of God. He further stated that as a true Democrat he has always been supportive of the Benue South governorship aspirations and there was no better time than now for the project.
Sen Suswam who received BRM in the company of his wife , the former first Lady of Benue state assured BRM that his doors were always open to the group and he was ready to give the BRM an audience and support when called upon.
He also advised the group to broaden it’s consultation to other important stakeholders and blocs in the Zone as he alone cannot make that decision to shift power to Benue South in 2020.
AVM Morgan on behalf of the delegation thanked the Senator for his time while also presenting the BRM Strategic Roadmap to the Senator.
