Benue 2027: Idoma governorship bid gets major boost as Tor Tiv blesses ADC’s Andrew Aba
The long-standing Idoma governorship agenda has received a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections following the royal blessing bestowed on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial aspirant, Engr Andrew Aba, by the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Prof James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse.
The historic visit, held at the Tor Tiv’s palace in Gboko, marked a significant moment in Benue’s 2027 political build-up, as Engr. Aba became one of the early governorship aspirants for the 2027 election to formally visit the Tor Tiv in pursuit of the state’s top job.
For the Idoma nation, the development carries deeper meaning.
Fifty years after the creation of Benue State, Idoma land is yet to produce a governor, despite its significant population, political contributions and economic relevance.During the engagement, HRM Ayatse emphasized the need for unity, dialogue and cooperation across political interests, stressing that Benue’s future depends on leaders who can build bridges beyond ethnic and partisan lines.
“Benue State is greater than any single interest. This is the time for political handshake, across parties, across ethnic lines and across personal ambitions.”
The Tor Tiv’s message, though carefully framed, is widely interpreted as a call for political realignment and inclusiveness, especially at a time when agitation for fairness and power balance is gaining momentum.
“Leadership must unite, not divide. Anyone aspiring to lead Benue must demonstrate the capacity to carry all sections of the state along.”
Engr. Aba, who is running on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described the royal reception as fatherly, symbolic and deeply reassuring, noting that his aspiration transcends ethnic boundaries.
“This blessing strengthens my resolve to pursue a Benue where no group feels excluded. My aspiration is about service, justice, and shared prosperity.”
He reiterated his commitment to upholding the cultural values of all Benue people, pledging to run an administration anchored on fairness, development, and security.
“If elected, I will govern Benue as one family, Tiv, Idoma, Igede and others, working together for a future that benefits all.”
