Martins Agena, a seasoned academic and administrator, officially assumed the role of Rector at Alfred Akawe Torkula Polytechnic in Makurdi, Benue State, on Monday, April 29, 2024.
In his address to the host community, staff, and management of the polytechnic, Dr. Agena expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for entrusting him with this appointment. He assured the audience that he would discharge his duties with diligence, reflecting the confidence placed in him by the Governor.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the institution, including dilapidated structures unfit even for reptiles, Dr. Agena highlighted his commitment to transforming the institution in alignment with Governor Alia’s vision to reposition the educational sector in the state.
He emphasized plans to collaborate with other agencies within and outside the state for the polytechnic’s improvement, citing partnerships with the Benue Links Transport Company and the Benue State Social Welfare Department.
Rev. Dr. Pila, offering a prayer and blessing for the new Rector’s office, charged Dr. Agena to continue seeking guidance from God. Accompanying Dr. Agena were Dr. Terna Francis, the Director-General of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency, and Mr. Alexenda Faanafa, the General Manager of the Benue Links Transport Company.
