The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2023 Benue South Senatorial election, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, has voiced his relief following the removal of Austin Agada as the state chairman of the party.
Onjeh had previously accused Agada of engaging in anti-party activities during the 2023 election, alleging that Agada undermined his campaign by supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Abba Moro. Onjeh’s petition to the APC National Working Committee, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, called for Agada’s removal from his position.
The allegations led to Agada’s suspension by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, who appointed Hon. Benjamin Omale as the acting chairman.
Despite this, Agada, with support from Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, rejected the suspension, further deepening the party’s internal conflict and creating two factions within the APC in Benue State.
The leadership crisis was finally addressed on Wednesday when the national APC leadership, under Ganduje, officially removed Agada and established a seven-member caretaker committee led by Benjamin Omale for a six-month term.
Reacting to the development, Onjeh expressed his satisfaction on his official Facebook page, stating, “Though justice was delayed, it was finally served.”
He added, “The chairman who heartlessly sabotaged my 2023 Benue South Senatorial election has finally been booted out, seven months after I petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his anti-party activities.”
