The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has uncovered a plot orchestrated by certain individuals within the Benue State Government to stage a widespread protest against the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. The motive behind this protest is an attempt to dissuade him from implementing the Senate’s resolution, which prohibits the release of funds to local government caretaker committees in Nigeria.
The intended protest is also allegedly aimed at the Senate President, Distinguished Sen Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the Senate session that passed the resolution, and Sen. Dr George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Leader of APC in Benue. Sen. Akume has been unfairly targeted with baseless accusations in the state by certain individuals with malicious intent.
This scheme has been carefully devised, with its initial phase involving a call for the resignation of the State Party Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada, without providing any genuine reasons. The party perceives this act of subversion as a serious threat to the unity of both the state and the party. It raises concerns that individuals claiming APC membership, while working within an APC-led state government, would openly protest against the President, the Senate President, and the SGF over a legal matter.
While acknowledging the right of individuals to express themselves, the party strongly condemns actions that could embarrass the President and his administration, deeming such actions unacceptable and in need of intervention.
The party calls upon the Inspector General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police to closely monitor this planned protest, which may initially appear as a solidarity march but harbors sinister motives. The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, is urged to oversee the activities of elements within his government using his name for actions that could potentially lead to a state of emergency.
All security agencies in the state are urged to remain vigilant and address the activities of this group, which seems intent on sowing seeds of division and undermining the peace of the state. The general public is advised to take note of these unfolding events, reminiscent of a scripted drama.
