Tension engulfed Chito town in the Adzendeshi Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, on Saturday following a violent assault by armed bandits in the early hours of the day.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers, numbering over ten, invaded the Tse-Mamkaa Compound around 2:26 a.m., unleashing terror on residents for approximately one and a half hours.

The assailants reportedly beat members of the household, looted homes, and carted away valuables including clothing, footwear, food items, and kitchen essentials — down to salt, seasoning cubes, and flour.

In a formal complaint to relevant authorities, Dr. Isaac H. Mamkaa, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the College of Education, Katsina-Ala, confirmed that two members of his family — Timothy T. Mamkaa and Nathaniel Mwuesega Mamkaa, the head of the household — sustained injuries during the attack. The residence of their grandfather, Kur Sev Adudu, was also targeted.

Dr. Mamkaa also raised the alarm over a chilling threat issued by the bandits, who allegedly warned they would return for an even more devastating assault.

“In view of the above… I appeal for your timely response and/or proactive action to avert the impending/looming calamity,” he stated in his letter.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to release an official statement or confirm any arrests related to the incident.
