The Benue State House of Assembly has approved a request by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia to obtain an N100 billion loan to finance key infrastructural projects across the state.

The approval was granted on Friday during an emergency sitting of the House presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.

According to the letter sent to the Assembly and read by the Speaker, the N100 billion facility will be used to fund major development initiatives, including the renovation and equipping of 23 general hospitals, renovation and construction of science schools across the state, and the completion of ongoing roads, bridges, drainages, and electricity projects.

Other projects to benefit from the loan include the construction of skills acquisition centres, establishment and equipping of smart schools in all federal constituencies, as well as the building and equipping of the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh.

The Assembly unanimously endorsed the loan request, describing it as critical to the state’s infrastructural renewal and socioeconomic growth.

Lawmakers also urged the state government to ensure transparent and judicious use of the funds for the overall development of Benue State.
