Benue Assembly passes Public Complaints, Anti-Corruption Commission bill
The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a landmark bill establishing a Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Lawmakers gave the legislation its third reading and final approval during Monday’s plenary on September 22, 2025, with Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga presiding.
The bill’s passage followed a recent public hearing at the Assembly complex where key stakeholders and experts offered feedback and recommendations on the proposed commission.
Once signed by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the law will create a framework to regulate both public and private conduct, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and bolster the state’s anti-corruption drive.
Speaker Emberga commended members for their “robust contributions,” stressing that the APC-led administration remains committed to combating graft, promoting justice, and restoring citizens’ trust in governance.
