The Special Adviser to the Governor, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ken Achabo Atam, has called on Local Government Chairmen in the State to beef up security in their respective areas to enhance security of lives and properties of their constituents.
The Special Adviser disclosed this today while presiding over the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee – JAAC meeting for the month of March, held at the conference Hall of the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Makurdi.
He decried the alarming influx of terrorists Herdsmen in some parts of the state and urged the Chairmen to step up Security measures to combat these criminal elements that have caused the deaths of many including Women and Children. He appealed to the Chairmen to prioritize the welfare of their people by ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries to enable them cope with their family needs and other financial obligations.
Hon. Achabo further informed JAAC that the Ortom’s administration places high premium on the welfare of elected members as much as he holds Benue civil servants in very high esteem, assuring that the Chairmen, their Deputies, Supervisors and Councilors will receive full payment of their entitlements before the expiration of their tenure.
JAAC also approved the payment of it’s statutory contributions to the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, to enable the electoral umpire equipt itself ahead of the April 2022, Local Government Elections in the State.
Council upheld the request by the State NULGE President, Comr. Anyia, to pay all those whose salaries were skipped in the last payment due to the shortfall in Federal allocations sent to Benue State.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the State ALGON Chairman and Chairman Guma Local Government, Hon. Caleb Aba appreciated God for the success of JAAC meeting for the month of March and expressed hope that all matters discussed during the meeting will be given priority attention to help reposition the Local Government system in line with the vision of Governor Samuel Ortom to move the State forward.
The members applauded Gov. Samuel Ortom for sustaining the full payment of workers salaries despite shortfalls in Federal allocations as against the 40 or 70% payment method adopted by other states.
