The Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), James Anodoakaa Iorpuu has embarked on a sensitization and awareness campaign on the need for people to vacate flood-prone areas.
The notification is in response to the release of water from the LAGDO-DAM of Cameroon over River Benue. The flood is said to affect people living around the banks of River Benue and people occupying flood-prone areas across 22 Local Government Areas.
Sir James Iorpuu is calling on residents living around the river bank to move to higher grounds for safety, He has designated public schools across the Local Government Areas that would be affected as camps for the victims of the impending flood.
The Ag. BSEMA Boss identifies some flood-prone areas within Makurdi the state capital, including Achusa, Idye, Wurukum market, Genabe, Industrial layout, Demekpe, Wadata market, Rice Mill, Inongun, Agbohough, Judges Quarters, and Gyado Villa.
BSEMA is concerned about the possible effect of the flood and will constantly keep the general public abreast of the impending flood.
