Benue community bans ‘iron condemn dealers’ amid rising insecurity

The Gwer West Local Government Council in Benue State has imposed an immediate ban on the operations of scrap iron dealers, commonly referred to as “iron condemn dealers,” throughout the entire council area.
The directive was issued by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, as part of broader efforts to address mounting security threats and restore law and order in the region.
Hon. Torsar warned that anyone caught engaging in scrap iron trade, particularly those moving materials from crisis-hit or township areas, will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
In a statement signed by Timothy Ajieje, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Chairman, residents were urged to remain alert and report any suspicious scrap-related activity to relevant security agencies.
“This action is intended to safeguard lives and property. We urge security operatives and members of the public to fully support the enforcement of this ban,” the statement read.
